Other times it is against the rules. And I don't know how to tell the difference.
The rule? Cussing
I don't do it very often but this trip has really brought out my inner sailor. Dragon says that the audience and intent matter most.
Sometimes I do understand I am being punished for using a 4 letter word. Others I am absolutely puzzled.
I can't make Dragon do anything. He won't drop the rule. He will continue to enforce it as he sees fit.
My job? Submit to the punishment. Cussing at all is against the rules. Right place, time and audience was added latter. If Dragon declares the words appropriate, great. If not I'll submit to the punishment.
Easier said than done. But enforcing the rule is reasonable. Even if I can make a compelling reason for my behavior, I still broke the rules.
So.... no more cussing at all. Done.
Or my backside will feel the burn.
There are some cuss words that will never come out of my mouth and there are some that are...oops...just a part of my vocabulary. Good luck in keeping all the cussing out of your vocabulary. Hope you get to go back to your Dragon soon.

He says that it is okay sometimes and not. When he says it isn't okay, I don't always understand his reasoning. So in my own head I am just going to say that it isn't ever okay. If he lets me off the hook, fine. If he decides that I deserve more I broke the rules and need to accept the consequences.
DeleteI am with Cat. some of those words just come out with giving it a thought...good luck!

"Without giving it a thought" yep, that is the problem and that is why the belt is putting that thought in my head.
DeleteTo me, there's nothing like a four letter word to express my feelings and make me feel better. Ray is so used to it, I don't think he even hears them anymore.
ReplyDeleteI never cussed when we met and now I just can't seem to stop. He says that the words just don't sound right coming out of my mouth. That I am too much of a lady to use them and I know better.
DeleteHe is right.
I admit i'm a little confused myself. i would do the same thing. if i can't understand when it's ok and when it's not, then in my head i'd just put it down as a blanket rule that it's NEVER ok.
ReplyDeletei do feel your pain tho. could you substitute? Fudge always works for me when kids are around... lol
or does that come under "intent" and still gets you into trouble?
Creativity is allowed but fudge is probably a little to close for me to get away with. Male bovine poop is a common one around my house. Just making it a blanket rule in my head will help, I hope. I have been around extended family for about a month now without Dragon to keep me balanced. My mom can be a bit over the top. I'm trying but it is hard.
Deletewell i suppose if a "too-close" word will still get you in trouble, then you'll just have to either stop completely, do the cussing only in your head, or else find totally new unrelated words as an alternative. When I was in school I used to say "jagoong". just cos it wasn't a real word and no one thought it sounded offensive. :)
